Paul brings to our NC Planning team an excitement and dedication to clients with a drive to provide effective, thorough, and ongoing counsel in meeting and exceeding clients’ planning needs and expectations. Paul has built his practice upon creating relationships with his clients that foster open communication and ongoing review of their legal planning needs with the goal of maintaining an up-to-date legal plan that will continually work for the client. This focus on the attorney-client relationship has been very well received and has led Paul to receive the 2016 The Cary News Best Attorney in Cary Award, the 2017 Cary Magazine Maggie Award (Honorable Mention) for Best Attorney in Western Wake, and the 2017 Cary Magazine Movers & Shakers Award.
Paul assists his clients in providing ongoing peace of mind and protection planning for them and their loved ones by counseling them on efficient and effective planning techniques. Paul’s estate planning practice includes wills and trusts, protections for minors, and special needs planning aimed at protecting means-tested government benefits such as SSI and Medicaid for beneficiaries with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Paul’s practice of law also includes ongoing and holistic business planning. His approach in business planning allows his clients to follow their dreams through the initial first steps of business formations, preparing internal corporate documents, contract review and drafting, and on to counseling his clients on corporate governance, limiting their personal liability exposure, as well as risk mitigation and litigation avoidance. This proactive planning allows his clients to rest easy, focusing on promoting and growing their businesses, while he provides the ongoing legal planning needed.
Paul’s parents instilled in him a blue-collar work ethic and a desire to help those around him. He is actively engaged in worthy pro bono endeavors and community service, including serving as President of the Board of Directors of The Carying Place, a Cary-based nonprofit working to end the cycle of homelessness in our community. When Paul is not at work or volunteering, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Alix (an NC State graduate), his sons, Mason and Conor, and his dogs, Louie and Ellie. He’s a big fan of coffee (read: addicted) and podcasts. A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Paul is a hopeless Detroit sports fan and can often be found on a Fall Sunday yelling at the TV while watching the Detroit Lions fail to advance in the playoffs for yet another year.
